Last year, when we were planning our first trip to Bali from the UK, we were keen to stay in stylish Seminyak, so we researched online looking for villas that met our requirements. While we did manage to find hundreds of property listings, the details were often vague and inconsistent and there was very little information about the local area.
We decided that the only option was to book into a hotel for the first few days and continue our research on the ground. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that easy.
We spoke to several local estate agents, scoured the newspapers for property advertisements and even resorted to ringing numbers we found on lampposts! That was another challenge. Not only are the roads in Bali very hard to navigate, public transport is virtually non-existent and addresses – well, let’s just say, they’re not like they are back home.
Eventually, we managed to find a villa that seemed to meet our requirements. So we moved all our stuff in, unpacked and could finally relax and enjoy our holiday. Or so we thought. Within 24 hours, we realised the Wi-Fi we’d been promised didn’t exist, the facilities were unreliable and the roof leaked like a sieve every time it rained.
